Unmarked Ground, 2026
Video essay, short film & multi-channel installation

Unmarked Ground looks at what it means to live without a fixed sense of belonging, in a time where movement, migration, and displacement are part of everyday life.

The project began as a video essay, later developing into a short film, and now extends into an installation. Fractured image sequences, moving image, and costume are brought together to create a space where different timelines and perspectives exist at once. The film may appear as a single work or split across two screens, further disrupting a linear narrative.

A polyphonic soundscape runs through the work, layering voices in different languages. Fragments of spoken text overlap, echo, and interrupt one another, forming a shifting script that resists a single, stable meaning. Language becomes both a point of connection and dislocation.

Natural materials used within the film are carried into the installation, creating a physical continuity between screen and space. These elements ground the work while also holding its fragility.

Rooted in personal experience, the work reflects a broader condition where home is no longer tied to one place. Identity forms across languages, geographies, and emotional states. You are here, but not fully. Present, but elsewhere.

Rather than focusing on borders themselves, the work turns toward the body as a site of orientation. Gesture, breath, voice, and proximity become ways of searching for ground. If place cannot hold us, what can?

The installation does not attempt to resolve this. Instead, it holds a state of instability and becoming, where identity is continuously shaped through movement, encounter, and change.
